Battle Over Funding for Planned Parenthood Continues; Congressman Mike Rogers Weighs In

Mike Rogers 3Funding for Planned Parenthood has been the subject of some heated debate recently, since hidden camera footage shot by anti-abortion activists surfaced, which seemed to show that some clinics had been selling fetal tissue to researchers.

We recently spoke with Congressman Mike Rogers regarding the issue:

On Wednesday of this week, U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson issued an order, directing the state of Alabama to restore funding to Planned Parenthood.

Alabama Governor Robert BentleyGovernor Robert Bentley announced in August, that he was terminating all state funding to the program, stating that he didn’t want Alabama associated with an organization that does not respect human life.

Planned Parenthood Southeast took Alabama to federal court, arguing that the state did not have a legal reason to end Medicaid provide agreements with the two clinics in the state.

In a statement recently released by Governor Robert Bentley, he said (quote) “…for the last two months, Alabama denied payment to Planned Parenthood Southeast. The good news is that as a result of the strong opposition by Alabama and a few other states to the practice of accepting reimbursement for harvesting fetal organs, the national Planned Parenthood organization has changed course, and will no longer continue this deplorable practice – we are reviewing the opinion and will determine the next legal steps within the appeal period.” (end-quote)
