On Thursday, officers with the Centre Police Department, took part in training sessions that focused on the proper use of “Stop Sticks”.
A “Stop Stick” is a tool used to disable a vehicle and end a vehicle pursuit. Those stop sticks are specially engineered to deflate tires without a blowout – resulting in far safer, and more controlled, stops of fleeing vehicles.
The training began with a presentation on procedure, policy and usage of the Stop Sticks.
Afterwards, each officer took a more hands-on approach, and practiced tossing the sticks in real-time situations.
Thursday’s class was taught by Centre PD Officer Matthew Peek.
