Authorities are still investigating the cause of a fire which claimed the life of a young Oxford girl over the weekend. 13 year old Apryl Laureano, a student at Oxford Middle School, died in the Saturday morning fire at her family’s home on Marie Ann Drive in Eastaboga.
Firefighters responded to the fire call just after 5:00am and resorted to cutting a hole in the side of the trailer to retrieve Laureano, who was unconscious in the hallway.
She was pronounced dead at 7:30 that morning as a result of smoke inhalation and thermal burns, according to Calhoun County Coroner Pat Brown.
The investigation has reportedly been turned over to the state fire marshal.
