Tractor Trailer Accident Friday Evening Blocks Traffic on Highway 48, Causing Power Outage

Menlo 1An accident on Friday evening on Highway 48 in Menlo left many without power until the early morning hours.

The accident took place on Highway 48 at the intersection of Jamestown Road.  According to reports, a tractor-trailer was coming down Shinbone Ridge hill and ran off of Highway 48 into the ditch to avoid hitting a car that had stopped in front of the tractor-trailer.  The truck struck a power pole, which caught fire.

Highway 48 traffic, west bound and east bound, was being re-routed around Bell Street.  To complicate matters, another truck attempted to make a right-hand turn on Bell Street and could not negotiate the sharp turn.  The truck was across Bell Street with the trailer in the ditch on Highway 48.  For a time, traffic was having to go around Shinbone Valley Road and Highway 337 in order to gain access to Highway 48.

Emergency workers on the scene at 5 AM Saturday morning said that it would probably be another 2-3 hours before Highway 48 at Jamestown Road was opened back up for traffic.
