Leesburg Town Council Appoints Former Councilwoman Diane Tillery To Fill Vacant Seat

IMG_1062The Leesburg Town Council has appointed former longtime Councilwoman Diane Tillery to fill the vacant seat recently held by Brandy Pierce who was appointed Mayor following the passing of Edward Mackey.

Several candidates who had shown interest in the position were in attendance during Monday’s meeting.

The decision came following a brief Executive Session with Councilman Joe Sonaty making a motion to nominate Tillery for the position –

That motion passed unanimously and Tillery was immediately administered the Oath of Office by District Court Judge Wes Mobley.

In other business, the council approved the Fiscal Year 2015/2016 Budget with a surplus of just over $23,000 – the date for the Town’s Annual Trunk or Treat event was also approved with that date being Saturday, October 31st from 3:00 – 5:00 p.m. at the Leesburg Landing.

Mayor Brandy Pierce also gave a brief update on the ongoing sewer project saying that a contract had been signed for work to begin on October 13th with a completion date of January 11th of 2016.
