Town Library Benefits from Annual Collinsville Quilt Walk

Quilt Show 2More than 300 quilts that will be on display at the annual Collinsville Quilt Walk, Friday and Saturday Sept. 25 & 26th. This annual event is a walking tour in which handmade and machine quilts dating from the early 1900s to 2013 are showcased throughout historic homes in Collinsville. Proceeds benefit the town library’s building fund.

There are six stops on the tour, one of which is the library. Ample parking space is found around downtown Collinsville.

Patrons can walk at their own place or ride the tram to each stop. This event is a showcase of the fine art of quilting and the architecture of the historic homes in this railroad town.

In addition to the tour, workshops on memory quilting, such as turning tshirts and mens ties into quilt tops will be in the upstairs of the library. Also, Anne Barrett, a local quilter from Geraldine and her quilting friends will showcasing many of the gorgeous quilts they have completed at one of the stops on the tour. A special feature is a Rag Doll Roundup, where handmade dolls will be displayed. There will be a competition for cloth doll makers and a special exhibit of heritage rag dolls.

The newly renovated Cricket Theater will be one of the stops on the quilt walk. The Collinsville Historical Association is in the process of restoring this great piece of history.

This event is a unique event for Northeast Alabama and spotlights the art of quilting and the talented hand-craft artisans in our area. Support of this event is important to the success of the town’s library.

This year’s walk begins at noon until 5 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 25 at 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. on Saturday, 26th.
