Mr. Guy Bennie “Pop” Sprayberry, age 78, of Rome, passed away on Wednesday, September 16, 2015, at his residence.
Mr. Sprayberry was born in Texas Valley, Georgia on March 14, 1937, son of the late Coy Bennie Sprayberry and the late Ruth Smith Sprayberry. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Annie, Mary, and Faye, and by three brothers, Edward, Larry, and Jack. Prior to retirement, Mr. Sprayberry worked for a number of years for Pet Bakery, Pharr Yarns and Mohawk. He attended New Vision Church.
Survivors include his wife, the former Patsy Gresham, to whom he was married on December 22, 1956; five sons, Bennie Sprayberry and his wife, Marilyn, Rome; Jerry Sprayberry, Cedar Bluff, AL, Jimmy Sprayberry, Silver Creek; Jeff Sprayberry, Cedar Bluff, AL, and Ronnie Sprayberry, Rome; nine grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lucy Dobbs, Centre, AL, and Linda Montgomery, Silver Creek; a brother, Charles Sprayberry, Calhoun; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 19, 2015, at 1 p.m. in the Chapel at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, with the Rev. Kim Wolfe and the Rev. Dale Byars officiating. Interment will follow in Oaknoll Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends at Henderson & Sons Funeral Home, South Chapel, on Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. At other hours, they will be at their respective residences.
Both active and honorary pallbearers are asked to assemble at the funeral home on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. and include: Active: Travis Sprayberry, Chris Sprayberry, Stephen Sprayberry, Phillip Sprayberry, Matthew Sprayberry, and Doug Dover. Honorary: James Hanks, Calvin Neal, and Nathan Cameron.
