Two elderly women have filed suits against Riverview Regional Medical Center, stating that they were subjected to sexual contact in their rooms during a stay as patients at the facility
That suit seeks compensation, and punitive damages – alleging negligence on the part of the hospital. 29 year old Christopher Lamont Lewis has been charged with two counts of sexual abuse first degree in connection with the incident. Lewis had been admitted to the hospital during the time period the attacks reportedly occurred – after being in an altercation where he was beaten and received a cut.
The two victims reported that their assailant had a cut over his eye; meanwhile, three other patients said that a man also entered their rooms during the early morning hours; however nothing happened.
Lewis was later arrested in Escambia County, Florida on burglary and theft charges.
That suit alleges that Riverview failed to contact the Gadsden Police Department, and failed to preserve evidence even though they were aware that criminal acts had occurred on their property.
The hospital said it has currently been working with the appropriate authorities – and takes the safety of its patients and staff quite seriously.
