Gaylesville Man Charged with Smoking Marijuana at Lyerly Town Park

Compton 2A Cherokee County man was arrested in the Lyerly Town Park in Chattooga County after he was allegedly caught smoking a joint while waiting to go to work at a nearby Mohawk plant

According to reports, a deputy noticed a vehicle sitting in the park shortly before midnight, and when he asked the occupant what he was doing there, the man said he’d been sitting in the park for about an hour, waiting to go to work.

The deputy detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle – and he then saw what appeared to be marijuana sitting on the console.

When asked how much marijuana he had the vehicle, the subject reportedly said “…just one joint.”

Inside the vehicle, the deputy found suspected marijuana, a suspected marijuana cigarette, a pipe used to smoke marijuana and a plastic bag with suspected marijuana residue in it.

At that point, Jonathan Luther Compton of Gaylesville was placed under arrest and taken to jail.
