Annual Leesburg Day Celebration Moving to Leesburg Landing

Leesburg Landing 1This year’s Leesburg Day Celebration is getting a bit of a facelift.

The annual event – sponsored by the Town of Leesburg – is being moved from the Leesburg Town Park to Leesburg Landing.

This year’s event will feature several new attractions – including a hot air balloon, a medical helicopter from Lifesaver along with a chopper from the Etowah County Sheriff’s Office and a visit from the Alabama National Guard.

In other business, Leesburg Town Attorney Chad Hopper was in attendance at the Monday meeting of the council to ask that the council approve the resolution for KTH to purchase a total of 56 acres of property that has been leased to the company by the Town of Leesburg; this comes at the request of attorneys representing KTH.

When the facility was built in 2001 the town leased the property to KTH at no charge for 40 years. The council unanimously approved the resolution, with the stipulation that the town could keep the mineral rights to the property.

The town is also advertising a position for a part-time police officer – with that job being no more than 32 hours per week at $12.00 an hour to include benefits.

The council also agreed to move the September council meeting to September 1st.
