Swift Actions By A Sheriff’s Deputy Results In The Arrest Of A Burglary Suspect

The swift actions of a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy has led to the arrest of a suspected burglar

According to Sheriff Jeff Shaver on Sunday evening, July 26th deputies were dispatched to a reported burglary and theft at a residence on County Road 307 at approximately 5:00 p.m.

Corporal Nick Vaughn conducted a search of the area and located some of the stolen property and evidence from the crime.

Cpl. Vaughn and Investigator Tony Monroy identified a person of interest and transported him to the Sheriff’s Office for an interview.

29 year old Mathew Troy Atkins of Centre was charged with third degree burglary and second degree theft of property. Atkins is being held in the Cherokee County Detention Facility pending a bond hearing.
