Store Manager Arrested After Filing False Robbery Report

Heather DawnInformation has been released regarding an alleged robbery occurring Sunday afternoon in DeKalb County.

According to Detective Mike Grant, Ft Payne Police received a call at around 3:30pm that a bank deposit bag belonging to Burke’s Outlet, had been taken from a store manager – while she was en route to drop the deposit at a local bank.

Manager Heather Dawn Swearengin gave the officers a detailed description of a white male assailant and the vehicle he was riding in, saying the robbery occurred when she pulled up to a stop sign and the man ran up to her driver’s side window, taking the bag at knifepoint.

However, everything was NOT as it seemed.

During the course of the investigation, law enforcement officials determined through video evidence from a nearby building that the so-called “robbery” never actually occurred.

The complainant’s vehicle was the only one seen on the video – which showed that she just pulled over and waited for police to arrive.

Swearengin was asked to come to Ft Payne Police Headquarters for further details, and she arrived a short time later with her attorney in tow – refusing to answer any questions.

At that point Swearengin, a 33 year old resident of Fyffe, was taken into custody on charges of First Degree Theft of Property (in excess of $3,000) – and for Filing a False Report to Law Enforcement.

She was transported to the DeKalb County Detention Center with bond set at $16,000.
