Anniston Man Arrested in Connection with Counterfeit/”Motion Picture” Money

BuieAnniston Police have made an arrest in connection with the recent use of counterfeit $100 bills around northeast Alabama.

Damon Buie, age 20, has been arrested and charged with possession of a forged instrument – law enforcement officials say additional arrests are expected in the near future.

The phony bills first started appearing several weeks ago, mainly in small businesses; also, in Etowah County, investigators recently received a complaint from a Gadsden-area movie theater about someone attempting to pass a fake $100 bill.

The bills being distributed have the words “For Motion Picture Use Only” clearly printed on them – also, the portrait of Benjamin Franklin has been slightly, but noticeably, altered.

Gadsden Police arrested Buie, and three of his relatives, last December for theft following a shoplifting incident at the Gadsden Mall.

The investigation into the matter is on-going and anyone having any information regarding the case should contact their local law enforcement agency.
