22 Year Old Piedmont Man Drowns At The Mill Hole Near Little River Canyon Park / UPDATED

A 22 year old Piedmont resident drowned on Wednesday afternoon, at the Mill Hole in the Little River Canyon National Preserve Park.

Cherokee County 9-1-1 received a call just before 3:00pm reporting that a male subject had gone under and failed to resurface. Bystanders pulled the victim from the water and began CPR until Park Rangers arrived at the scene, and at that point, Rangers continued CPR until Cherokee EMS Paramedics arrived.

Medics continued to perform CPR until they arrived at Cherokee Medical Center where the victim – identified as Matthew Frost – was pronounced dead by Cherokee County Coroner Jeremy Deaton.

Deaton says that no foul play is suspected, and the drowning appears to have been a tragic accident.
