Fatal Leesburg Accident Turned Over to ALEA Traffic Homicide Unit for Investigation

Deadly Crash- Feature PicAccording to Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum, the two-vehicle accident which claimed the life of a Leesburg Woman and injured several others Monday afternoon, has now been turned over to the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Traffic Homicide Unit, for additional investigation.

That collision took place at around 3:20pm on Keener Drive – at the intersection of Mackey Street – fatally injuring 30 year old Brandi Nicole Lawson.

No additional information including the names, or the condition, of anyone else involved in the wreck has yet been released.

Three separate helicopters were dispatched to air-lift victims to area trauma centers and at least two people had to be extricated from vehicles by the Cherokee County Rescue Squad.

That portion of Keener Drive was shut down for an extended period of time, as emergency crews worked to clear away the wreckage, and the Leesburg Police Department performed the initial investigation.

The Leesburg Police & Fire Departments, Cherokee EMS, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Cherokee County Rescue Squad all responded to the scene.

We’ll have more information as it becomes available from the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency.
