Spring Garden Forges Ahead in High School Girls’ Softball Competition

IN HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS SOFTBALL, CLASS 1A, No. 2 SPRING GARDEN FELL TO TOP RANKED BRANTLEY 4-2 IN THE OPENING ROUND OF THE STATE TOURNAMENT ON THURSDAY.  THEN, IN THE ELIMINATION BRACKET, THE GARDEN GIRLS SHUT OUT RAGLAND 8-0.  THE LADY PANTHERS FELL BEHIND BILLINGSLEY 5-1 BEFORE RALLYING FOR THREE RUNS IN THE FOURTH INNING AND THREE MORE IN THE FIFTH BEFORE THE GAME WAS SUSPENDED ON THURSDAY EVENING BY TOURNAMENT OFFICIALS DUE TO LIGHTNING.  THE GARDEN GIRLS FINISHED THE GAME THIS MORNING AND CAME AWAY WITH THE 7-5 VICTORY.  SPRING GARDEN NOW ADVANCES TO FACE ISABELLA IN THE ELIMINATION BRACKET.
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL JAMBOREES KICKED OFF LAST NIGHT.  CHEROKEE COUNTY SHUT OUT B.B. COMER 35-0 WHILE CEDAR BLUFF WAS EDGED BY WESTBROOK CHRISTIAN 24 TO 20.
ON SATURDAY, JACKSONVILLE STATE WILL HOST 13 JAMBOREE SESSIONS BEGINNING AT 8:30 A.M. THREE COUNTY TEAMS ARE INVOLVED WITH THE GAYLESVILLE TROJANS GETTING THEIR TURN AT 11 A.M. WHEN THEY MEET BENJAMIN RUSSELL’S B-SQUAD.   THEN AT 6:30 P.M. IT’S SAND ROCK VERSUS GLENCOE IN A CLASS 3A SHOWCASE.  CAPPING THE EVENING ACTION WILL BE SPRING GARDEN AND RANDOLPH COUNTY WHEN THEY TAKE THE FIELD AT 9:30 P.M.
