National Weather Service Confirms EF0 Tornado Touched Down In Leesburg Sunday

The National Weather Service in Birmingham has confirmed that en EF0 Tornado touched down in Leesburg at 8:38 a.m. on Sunday causing significant damage.

The twister was 200 yards wide and traveled 3.5 miles with maximum sustained winds at 80 miles per hour.

The tornado touched down along Keener Dr. just West of Highway 68 uprooting and snapping multiple hard and softwood trees – with a large hardwood tree falling onto a residence causing substantial damage to both the home and a vehicle – the storm also caused significant damage to a barn on Bristow Gap Road.
