Strong Storms Produce Significant Damage In Leesburg

Severe Thunderstorms moved across the area this morning causing wind and possible tornado damage.

Reports have been received from Cherokee and Calhoun Counties – a home and a vehicle was completely destroyed on Keener Dr. in Leesburg as well as a barn that was destroyed in the same area.

Numerous trees and power lines were also toppled in Leesburg as the storm passed through – several eyewitnesses told WEIS Radio News that they observed what appeared to be a tornado drop from the sky briefly before causing significant damage.

There were at least two people who were treated for minor injuries.

The National Weather Service Office says that they will be sending out a Survey Team to Cherokee County on Monday to determine exactly what caused the damage.
