Centre City Council Holds Special Called Meeting

Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie during a Special Called meeting of the City Council on Monday issued a very stern statement to the city council regarding some recent issues that have surfaced.

One of those issues centered on two council members whom the Mayor says have not attended any Certified Municipal Trainings since they were elected – Wilkie said that as a City Council member he felt it would be in the best interest and benefit for those council members to attend the Certified Municipal Training’s, not for benefit of that individual but for the benefit of what they do in their role as council members.

Wilkie went onto say this –

The Mayor also cited an instance where council members gave permission for city equipment and property to be used without the authorization of the Mayor or the City Council.

Wilkie said these instances could result in negative consequences for city including having they city’s insurance cancelled.

At the end of the meeting and just before receiving a standing ovation from those in attendance, Mayor Wilkie made this statement –

The matter is expected to be further discussed when the council holds its regular scheduled Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
