Cherokee County Board of Education Votes One Up – One Down on Certified Placements

The Cherokee County Board of Education held its regular meeting Tuesday evening with a rare almost two hour session.

Just five minutes into the meeting School Superintendent Mitchell Guice recommended an executive session to discuss possible pending litigation with Chairman Gossett announcing the board would reconvene in 30 minutes.

An hour and a half later, the meeting was resumed with the Board approving a contract with Jennifer Chandler for homebound tutoring services, out of state travel for Randy Rainey and Team Cherokee Coaches and Students to attend the VEX IQ World Robotics Competition in Louisville, Kentucky on March 15-18, 2015 at no cost to the Board.

Sandi Wheeling, Dawn Lawson and Gaylesville Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheer Squad to attend Summer Cheer Camp in Panama City Beach, Florida on July 26-30 at no cost to the Board and Sabrina Reedy, Kelly Bates, Rebecca Parris and Audra Broome to attend the Gulf Coast Conference on the Teaching or Writing in Destin, Florida on June 29-July 2 funded by Title.

In personnel action Superintendent Guice recommended two Certified Placements for consideration. Board member Brian Jennings ask for two to be voted on separately. The first was Cassandra Lindsey for Assistant Principal at Spring Garden School who was approved without a dissenting vote. The next was Brett Keasler for Central Office Supervisor which was voted down on a 3-2 vote with Jennings, Rochester and Gossett casting dissenting votes. There was no discussion at the table regarding either vote.

In job postings Superintendent Guice recommended a position for Testing Assessment Specialist which is a county wide position. The board concurred.

The next meeting of the Board was set for April 28 at the Central Board Office at 6 PM and is open to the public.
