Highway 68 West at the top of the mountain in Sand Rock was shut down for an extended period of time early Monday afternoon as firefighters worked to extinguish a vehicle that caught fire near Cruickshank Lane.
Sand Rock Firefighters were dispatched to the scene at around 1:00 – Leesburg Firefighters were also called to assist in with traffic control at the foot of the mountain.
The vehicle was found to be approximately one foot off of the road – it is not known at this time exactly what caused the fire.
Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies and Alabama State Troopers also responded to the scene – the vehicle was finally removed just after 2:00pm.
