Centre Elementary School Teacher Resigns Following Charges Of Sexual Abuse And Electronic Solicitation Of A Child

A Centre Elementary School Teacher charged Friday with 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse and Electronic Solicitation of a Child, has resigned her tenured position at the school effective once her sick and personal leave days have been exhausted.

Cherokee County Superintendent of Education Mitchell Guice called and emergency session of the school board Saturday afternoon to accept the resignation of Leah Garmany.

Garmany was arrested on Friday and according to Cherokee County Jeff Shaver was charged with 2nd Degree Sexual Abuse and Electronic Solicitation of a Child – Superintendent Guice declined to comment further on the situation.

The case has been turned over to the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office and remains under investigation. According to the Sherriff the incident occurred at a residence and did not occur at the school.
