February is Career & Technology Center Month; and Brett Keasler, Cherokee County Career & Tech Center Principal, stopped by the WEIS Radio studios Thursday morning to discuss a variety of topics including the increasing focus on career tech jobs now that the market has started to swing back the other way, and certain skills are in high demand, both locally and across the country:

Keasler pointed out that those with a two-year degree, will see a vast improvement in their starting salaries when they join the work force:

Keasler stressed that students need to learn more about their options at as young an age as possible; he urges parents to sit down with their children and talk about the reality of what the future holds and how important it is to make wise decisions early on.

The Cherokee County Career & Tech Center was able to add two new programs this year – a precision machine shop and a pre-engineering design with AutoCAD drafting program with students taking the programs earning dual enrollment credit, both high school and college.

The dual enrollment classes are available for the 11th and 12th grade students maintaining a ‘B’ average or above.
