The “go to” groundhog for rodent-related weather prognostication, Punxsutawney Phil, has spoken: Six More Weeks of Winter Dead Ahead.

Phil reportedly saw his shadow at approximately 7:25 Monday morning (Groundhog Day) – in Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania – where skies were overcast, with scattered snow and rain showers.

Since the tradition began back in 1887 the groundhog of choice has seen his shadow a total of 102 times, with his official website claiming he has been correct in his predictions 100% of the time – however the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration better known as the NOAA says Phil has an accuracy rate of just 80%, which is, all-in-all, still not too shabby for a rodent.
