Gadsden Fire Medic Injured Trying To Help A Man That Overdosed

A Gadsden fire medic was injured Monday when he tried to help a man who was passed out in a car from an apparent overdose.

According to Gadsden police reports, the incident happened at 3:38 p.m. Monday. A 30-year-old man was reportedly passed out over the steering wheel of his car when medics responded. A person who knew the man told medics he had possibly overdosed and that he had a gun with him.

When a 43-year-old medic opened the car door, the man woke up and began to struggle. He then kicked at the door and gave the medic a wound in the abdomen. The man then sped away from the scene, swerving around a fire truck.

He was followed to a home on Duncan Street where police officers used a Taser to subdue him, the report stated. He was later taken to Gadsden Regional Medical Center for treatment.
