Piedmont Man Dies In Saturday Morning House Fire

Firefighters found the body of a Piedmont man after they extinguished a fire Saturday morning.

Calhoun County Assistant Coroner Jay Bowden said firefighters were called to a residence in the 200 block of Church Street South about 7:25 a.m.

Once they put out the fire, they found the body of 38-year-old Adrian Juwan Mathis, He was pronounced dead at 9 a.m.

Bowden said the fire looks to have started accidentally, but is still under investigation. It appears Mathis died of smoke inhalation, but the body has been taken to Huntsville for an autopsy for a final determination.
