Cedar Bluff Police Still Searching for Suspect in High Speed Chase

chase1A pursuit over the weekend in Cedar Bluff resulted in one person being arrested on drug charges with officers still searching for the driver of the vehicle.

According to Officer Jason O’Neal with the Cedar Bluff Police Department – he along with Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy Mike Howard attempted to stop a vehicle that had been reported as suspicious on someone’s property on Saturday.

The vehicle pulled over for a brief moment near the Cedar Bluff Park and as O’Neal exited his patrol car, the driver sped away with Deputy Howard pursuing him down Main Street near the high school baseball field.

Both the suspect and Deputy Howard crashed at the intersection of Main St and Highway 68 with the driver fleeing on foot through a wooded area, he has been identified by police as Stanley Ray Jones – O’Neal said that felony warrants on Jones are expected to be signed this week, Jones also had active warrants on him at the time of the incident.

A female passenger was also arrested on drug charges.

Deputy Howard was taken to Cherokee Medical Center where he was treated and released.
