Low Gas Prices Fuel Cheaper Holiday Travel

Expect the roads to be pretty stuffed this Thanksgiving.

An estimated 46.3 million Americans are expected to travel 50 miles or more during the holiday weekend, marking the highest number of travelers since 2007 for the Wednesday through Sunday period according to AAA Travel projections.

The agency estimates a 4.2 percent increase over last year’s 44.4 million travelers, and drivers likely will pay the lowest holiday gas price in five years.

Across Cherokee County, the average gas price Thursday was $2.59 per gallon, according to information provided through gasbuddy.com that’s about 61 cents less than the city’s $3.61 per gallon average a year ago.

Gas can be found for $2.52 at Murphy’s USA at Wal-Mart and at the Grub Mart, $2.55 at the Chevron on West Main Street and the Bypass Express Mart – in Cedar Bluff a gallon of regular gas is $2.52 at the Weiss Mart and $2.53 at the Quick Mart – and in Leesburg gas can found at $2.52 at the Maverix Station and at the Coosa Corner and $2.53 at the R&D One Stop
