Oxford police are looking for a man who they say tried to run over a police officer. Capt L.G. Owens said William Scott Sprayberry is being sought in connection with an incident late Friday night.
Chief Bill Partridge on his Facebook page said police responded to a burglary-in-progress at a storage facility in Oxford around 11:30 p.m. An officer arrived on the scene and confronted a white male who was placing items in his vehicle.
The officer ordered the individual to get on the ground, but the man jumped into his vehicle and tried to run the officer down in the lot.The man struck the officer’s vehicle, and the officer shot into the man’s vehicle.
The vehicle was found later in Cleburne County. Oxford Police have the K-9 unit out searching for the man. Partridge said Sprayberry may have a shaved head and could be wearing camouflage. He is wanted in several theft investigations.
