Some City Of Centre Employees Will No Longer Be Allowed To Drive City Vehicles Home

During Tuesday’s meeting of the Centre City Council – Councilman Marc Johnson made a formal motion which would take the keys of city vehicles out of the hands of city employees when they are not being used for city use –

Johnson cited economic and cost saving measures as one the reasons for making the decision – and also stated that he had received several phone calls concerning city property being used for personal use outside of the city limits – more specifically the use of the vehicle being driven by Parks and Recreation Director Charles Glazner and also the use of the city’s Mosquito Truck.

Mayor Pro-Tem Bess Yarbrough said that the previsions involving the use of Glazner’s vehicle were outlined in his contract when he was hired; however Councilman Johnson, Phillip Roberts and Derrick Wheeler all say that they have not been able to verify that information.

Johnson, Wheeler, Roberts and Councilman Harry Moon all voted in favor of the measure with Yarbrough voting No and Councilman Frankie Kelley and Mayor Tony Wilkie not voting at all.

The only exception to the motion was those employees who serve as the city’s first responders including police officers, firefighters and other employees that may be subject to being called to duty after hours.

In other business, Council Members all agreed from now on to have all meetings recorded by WEIS Radio in their entirety and to have a copy of those meeting emailed to each of the council members, mayor and to city hall so that there will be a digital copy on file in the event that there is any questions concerning a matter discussed at a meeting.

The council also agreed to once again participate in the WEIS Radio Shop At Home Campaign – and voted to spend a total of $9,313 to have new windows installed at the new Police Department Building in the former Federal Building on West Main Street.
