Mother of Child Killed in Accident Indicted by Grand Jury on Vehicular Homicide Charge

The mother of a child fatally injured in an auto accident back in April has been indicted by a Floyd County grand jury on felony the charges of Homicide by Vehicle and Serious Injury by Vehicle.

Rome Police Department reports indicated that seven year old M’Kenzey Floyd was riding in the front passenger seat of the SUV which crashed into a concrete utility pole; the report also made note that no one in the vehicle, including M’Kenzey; her mother, Tewanna Marie Atkins; and another child – was properly restrained.

Both Atkins and the other child, age three, were taken to Erlanger Medical Center suffering serious injuries.

In addition to the vehicular homicide charge Atkins was charged with Reckless Driving and two seat belt violations concerning children.
