Gadsden Police Break Burglary Ring

Ladarius Rishard Sanders (Etowah County Jail)A 29-year-old man is being held in the Etowah County Detention Center without bond in connection with what Gadsden police investigators are saying is a commercial burglary ring.

Det. Jeff Hopper said Ladarius Rishard Sanders faces first degree property theft and burglary charges, and authorities expect further charges to be filed against him, as well as a man and a woman. Investigators believe the three were involved in several commercial burglaries, a residential burglary in Anniston, and several car break-ins.

Officers were called to The Fish Market on Rainbow Drive Tuesday morning after the restaurant opened to find someone had broken in through a back door. In addition to finding flour dumped on the floor, someone had forced open an office door, taking a safe, money and several receipts.

Using the in-store security audio and video, police were able to identify the burglar as a man wearing a hoodie, a pair of multi-colored shorts and silver framed glasses. Checking outside the restaurant, police noticed drag marks that extended behind several other businesses to a nearby motel. Behind some bushes, officers discovered a safe hidden near the loading dock of the Top O’ The River restaurant.

Hopper said he saw a couple outside at the motel, which he went to speak with. As Hopper passed the open door to a motel room, he saw a woman sweeping up the room, as well as a man who fit the same description as the burglary suspect, including his clothing. That man was Sanders.

Police then searched the room and found receipts, the hoodie still wet from the previous night’s rain and a large amount of cash still wrapped under the bed.

In addition, they found other items they believe were taken during break-ins at Uncle Sam’s Barbecue, Bob Haller Insurance, and other locations, including an Anniston home. There was also alcohol taken from the Fish Market office.

Police are also asking anyone who may have cashed a check from the Bob Haller Insurance Agency account since Oct. 8 to contact them. About 50 blank checks were taken, and only three have been accounted for so far.
