Cedar Bluff Police Chief Steve Walden Warns Motorist Not To Text & Drive In Bridge Construction Zone

CB BRIDGE 2Crews are continuing to work to give the Cedar Bluff Bridge a much needed facelift – Right now crews are working on sandblasting and priming both sides and underneath the bridge, and once that is complete they will then begin the process of painting.

State Department of Transportation Supervisor Mark Terry told WEIS Radio News on Tuesday afternoon that he is seeing a large number of motorist who are texting while driving in the Construction Zone creating a dangerous environment for the flagmen directing traffic– last week Terry also spoke about concerns of motorist speeding across the bridge with while slow signs are posted.

We spoke to Cedar Bluff Police Chief Steve Walden who told us that his officers would be closely monitoring traffic and that anyone caught speeding or texting while driving in a construction zone or otherwise would be issued a traffic ticket.

Remember that Texting While Driving is Illegal in the State of Alabama – drivers will be ticketed and fined $25 for the first offence, $50 for the second and $75 for the third and subsequent offences.

A violation also puts two points on a driver’s record at the State Department of Public Safety, which could affect your insurance rates.
