Attalla Man Arrested For Stealing A Shrubbery Leads To The Recovery Of Stolen Items From Trade Day In Collinsville

An Attalla man has been arrested and charged with five felony counts of Burglary and one count of Theft of Property.

According to Collinsville Assistant Police Chief Rex Leath on Saturday, Officer Ada Hamilton noticed a male standing in front of the Dollar General store holding something in his arms.

Leath said when Officer Hamilton approached the male, he dropped a shrubbery that he had dug up from in front of the Dollar Store and took off running.

After a short foot pursuit, Officer Hamilton arrested Jonathan Keith Weaver of Attalla.

While searching the area, Officer Hamilton discovered a white Ford truck parked behind the Dollar Store. While inspecting the truck, the officer noticed 2 metal dollies in the back of the truck at which time Officer Hamilton had the truck towed for further investigation.

Weaver was booked into the Collinsville City Jail for Theft of Property 3rd, Public Intoxication and Attempting to Elude.

On Monday, Chief Gary Bowen went to the wrecker lot where the truck had been impounded to retrieve the 2 metal dollies that had been taking from the Dollar General.

While Chief Bowen was retrieving the metal dollies from the truck, he noticed several items that were reported taken from several booths at Collinsville Trade Day on back September 19.

The items that were reported taken during the burglary were brought to the Collinsville Police Department for inventory.

Leath said the victims of the burglarized booths came to the Collinsville Police Department and identified the property that was taking during the burglaries.

Chief Bowen was able to obtain 5 felony warrants for Burglary 3rd and 1 felony warrant for Theft of Property 2nd for a firearm that was taken during the burglary also.

Weaver was booked into the DeKalb County Detention Center on the felony warrants.
