Cherokee Rock Village Park Getting a Highly Anticipated Facelift

Another major step is in the works for Cherokee Rock Village as crews are currently working on a restroom/safe room facility near the park entrance to accommodate up to 60 people.

For the first time ever the park is now manned seven days a week with a staff member on site at varying hours throughout the day which has addressed questions concerning security issues at the park.

Crum went on to say that the next phase of renovations will include an observation deck which will be handicap accessible allowing those who are in a wheelchair or who have ambulatory problems to be able to enjoy the view from the rocks, that project is slated to be complete in late spring of 2015.

Long-term plans for Cherokee Rock Village include building the campground into an RV Campground which will provide electricity and water to campers. Crum said that there are also plans to construct an amphitheater, which would be used for large scale concerts, weddings, as well as other outdoor activities.

Plans are also in the works to build a mountain biking area for kids which will be connected to a larger mountain biking system throughout the park.

Crum said that over the last several years a little over 17,000 have visited Cherokee Rock Village – the park was the site for a portion of the film Failure To Launch which featured Matthew McConaughey – other activities have included, ballooning, rock climbing, RC Rock Climbers, and the like.

Cherokee Rock Village offers 4G cell phone services as well as 24 hour emergency services including a helipad area for medi-vac helicopters in the event that emergency medical services is needed along with 24 hour video surveillance system.
