Two People Killed In Fort Payne After Vehicle Overturns And Burst Into Flames

Fort Payne Police Chief Randy Bynum says that two individuals have tied after the vehicle they were driving overturned and burst into. The crash happened shortly after midnight on 8th Street North.

Fort Payne Police 911 received the call at 12:10 with officers arriving on the scene one minute later and attempted to extinguish the fire with fire extinguishers.

Police say when they arrived; the vehicle was burning and they had no idea if anyone was in it. It appears the driver lost control of his Dodge truck and went into a deep culvert next to the railroad tracks.

Two Hispanic males’ subjects were in the vehicle and extracted by the Fort Payne Fire Department.

The driver, Miguel Jose, Jr., age 23 of Fort Payne, was transported to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga by DeKalb Ambulance Service where he later died from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

The second victim Antonio Martin, age 24 of Fort Payne, was transported to Dekalb Regional by Dekalb Ambulance Service and later was pronounced dead.

The cause of this accident is still under investigation by the Fort Payne Police Department.

Chief Bynum said the investigation into the cause of this crash is ongoing.
