“Fish Tale” Lands Pair of Anglers in Jail

Fish Tale 1 Fish Tale 2A “Fish Tale” has resulted in two anglers catching a ride to jail in Marshall County.

Gary Lee Minor, Jr. of Albertville, and Robert Scott Gillaspie of Boaz, have been found guilty of cheating during the Night Owl’s Fishing Tournament on Lake Guntersville, back on April 22nd.

During court testimony, professional angler Richard Peek said he saw the pair stop off at a boat dock and return with a large bass in a net that had come from inside the dock.

Both Minor and Gillaspie were found guilty of Theft by Deception, and of Tampering with a Sporting Event.

They were ordered to a one year suspended jail sentence provided they serve 30 days; they were also ordered to serve 400 hours of community service at Lake Guntersville State Park, two years probation and each must pay $1,000 and court costs.

Minor and Gillaspie are allowed to make a $1,000 appeal bond – which would send the case to a jury in circuit court.
