The Gadsden State Community College Alumni Association will host a celebration on Thursday, October 2 featuring the Shane Givens Band. The band is celebrating the release of their second CD and has been featured on Zuus TV as a “band on the rise.” Their popular video Hillbilly Superman quickly became a sensation and is rising to the top of the country charts.
The Shane Givens Band has been together since August 2012 and has recently soared in popularity. Givens, who is the lead singer and also plays the acoustic guitar, harmonica and piano, is a lawyer in Centre. Brian Bankston, guitarist, is band director at Gadsden Middle School. Saxophonist Arnold Montgomery works at Gadsden Music Co. Bass guitarist Charlie Freeman recently graduated from law school. Drummer Josh Griffith is an insurance salesman in Centre. All members are alumni of Gadsden State.
The alumni event this year will honor former musicians from the Gadsden State Show Band, former Southern Belle dancers, and singers from the band and choral department. Musicians, dancers, and singers are invited to bring photos or videos of past performances to share.
Outstanding faculty members, alumni, and scholarship recipients will also be honored, including the Distinguished Service Award recipient. The ceremony will be held at the East Broad Campus Auditorium from 4:30 to 6:00 p.m. Alumni and friends of Gadsden State are invited to attend this free event. For more information call 256-549-8247.
