Hundreds of supporters turned out Thursday afternoon for the Richard Lindsey Re-Election Kickoff Event at Gadsden State Cherokee Arena in Centre. The Cherokee County High School Band played along with the David Winkles Band of Heflin and the Shane Givens Band of Centre. The Cherokee County Volunteer Fire Department Honor Guard presented the Colors with Charlene Covington singing the National Anthem and Lana Evans doing a patriotic medley.
Guest Speakers included State Representative from District 28, Craig Ford, retired educator and former Principal, Freddie Reynolds, former U.S. Congressman Glen Browder, former Administrator of the Cherokee Health and Rehab, Jerry Culberson, and former Federal Judge and practicing Attorney, H. Dean Buttram, Jr. All praised Lindsey for his 31 years of dedicated service to the residents of House District 39 and the State of Alabama.
Representative Lindsey was first elected to the Alabama House of Representatives in 1983 and is past chairman of the Education Finance and Appropriations Committee. He is also manager of Lindsey Brothers Inc., member of the advisory board of First Southern Bank, President of Southeastern Cotton Ginners Association, President of Howells Cemetery Association, member of the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce, member of the board of the Cherokee County Farmers Federation, and the Coosa-Alabama River Improvement Association.
During his continued legislative service, Representative Lindsey has received numerous awards including Legislator of the Year from the Alabama Rural Electric Cooperatives, State Representative of the Year from the Alabama Association of Conservation Districts and the Lifetime Legislative Leadership Award for his work on behalf of the Alabama’s School children from the Council for Leader in Alabama Schools.
Lindsey thanked the group for their support, ask them for their vote in the November 4th General Election and pledged to continue to work to improve the Education System in State, work to bring in new jobs, improve health care, and to secure funding to complete the 411 highway four lane project between Turkey Town and Slackland communities. He also told the group he would continue to work to improve the working relationship between all parties in the Alabama Legislature.
