Capital Murder Trial for Joyce Hardin Garrard Delayed Yet Again

Garrard HearingThe Capital Murder trial of Joyce Hardin Garrard, has now apparently been pushed back to February of next year (2015). The trial for the 49 year old Etowah County woman accused of forcing her nine year old granddaughter to run until she collapsed back in 2012, was set to begin September 22nd (2014). Savannah Hardin was reportedly forced to run non-stop, for some three hours, as punishment for telling a lie, before passing out, and being taken to Riverview Regional Medical Center, where she died three days later.

Circuit Judge William Ogletree said his reason for delaying that trial was due to “discovery and procedural issues.”

Savannah’s step-mother, Jessica Mae Hardin, has also been charged in connection with her death; she faces a charge of murder for not stopping the punishment.
