Gaylesville Man Drowns In Weiss Lake

A tragic accident has claimed the life of a Gaylesville man.

According to Cherokee County Deputy Coroner Carl Brown, 70 year old Jerry Wayne Clowdus drown in Weiss Lake on Wednesday at the boat ramp near the Cobia Bridge in Cedar Bluff.

According to Brown, Clowdus had gone to get his truck and trailer to remove his pontoon boat from the water when the boat drifted from the dock, his wife was still aboard the boat – Clowdus then jumped into the water to attempt to retrieve the vessel and never resurfaced.

Sheriff’s Deputies and Rescue Personnel were swiftly in the water attempting to locate him – Clowdus was pulled from the water at around 1:00pm and pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Cedar Bluff Police Investigators, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputies, the Cherokee County Rescue Squad and Cherokee EMS all responded to the scene.
