Cherokee County has one of the lowest unemployment rates in the northeast Alabama area – that according to the latest figures released from the state for the month of June.
Cherokee County’s unemployment rate stands at just 5.9%, compared to 7.2% in DeKalb County and 7.1% in Etowah County. Calhoun County’s rate jumped to 7.9% while the statewide rate for the month of June came in at 6.8%.
Counties with the lowest unemployment rate in the state of Alabama, included Shelby County at a flat 5.0% and Baldwin and Cullman counties at 5.7% meanwhile the highest rates were posted in Wilcox County, 17.2% and Perry County at 14.8%.
The U.S. unemployment rate dropped to 6.1% in June down from 6.3% in May.
