Newly appointed Mayor of Cedar Bluff, Tammy Crane, presided over her first Town Council meeting Thursday afternoon at 530. The regular meeting set for Tuesday afternoon was cancelled due lack of a quorum.
The Council adopted a resolution to apply for the FY 2014 Community Development Block Grant through ADECA for a street paving project. The total project is $420,000 with the Town to be responsible for $70,000 in matching funds if the grant is approved.
The Town’s Alcohol Ordinance was amended to lower the sales tax on alcoholic beverages other than beer and wine to two percent from the current ten percent. Another item of business was to appoint a Mayor Pro Tem. Norman Burton was appointed to serve in that capacity. The Council also appointed Dewayne Agan to fill the unexpired term of Tammy Crane who was recently appointed Mayor after the Council went into executive session to discuss the matter.
Mayor Crane recommended the Town Clerk’s term of employment to 2016 with an annual salary of $30,000 with the Council approving the recommendation.
The Council adopted a policy concerning Citizens and Visitors Comments during Council meetings. In the future, those who want to speak to the Council will need to fill out a form at least by Friday prior to the meeting asking to be on the agenda. The form will have a place for the applicant to state the subject to be discussed. Each person will be given 3 minutes to speak.
