June Kathleen Thompson Stinson, 83 of Cedar Bluff, AL, passed away Monday, June 14th at her home, surrounded by family.

Funeral services will be 1PM Thursday at the Perry Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mark Cosby officiating. Burial will follow in Cedar Bluff Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12 until 1 PM Thursday.

Pallbearers include Dale Rogers, Roy Rogers, Johnny Neyman, Joe Johnson, Jerry Givens, Gary Givens, Charles Keith.

She is survived by her son, Bobby Joe Stinson Jr., daughter, Michelle Stinson, foster sons, Roy and Dale Rogers, grandchildren, Amanda Johnson (Joe), Jacob Stinson, Carlie Stinson, Cailey Stinson, great grandson, Baby Boy Johnson, brothers, Derek Thompson (Linda) and Terry McCulloch (Maureen) and sister, Ann Moyse (Ron).

She was preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Joe Stinson, Sr.

Originally from Great Yarmouth, England, she married Bobby in 1955 there and travelled with him while raising a family to Air Force assignments all over the United States and Europe until settling in Cedar Bluff in 1976, after Bobby’s retirement from the Air Force. She was a career mom, foster mom, cosmetologist and educator, working with special needs children and as a reading teacher for the Cherokee County Board of Education. She was honored to have been a foster parent to 50 children in crisis and five children who became members of the family. She was a supporter of the Saint Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Boys and Girls Ranches of Alabama and the Cherokee Animal Adoption Center and Shelter. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Cedar Bluff since 1955 and member of the First Baptist Fidelis Sunday School class and Cleveland Womens Methodist Union where she was known for her wonderful cakes. She was also known for her delicious English High Teas enjoyed with her group of English friends from Rome, Georgia.

 

Memorials may be made to the Cherokee Adoption Center or the family will accept flowers.
