Thursday, a meth lab investigation off of Mississippi Avenue in Cloudland led to a vehicle pursuit and then to a high dive from the broken dam just inside DeKalb County Alabama.
John Christopher Hunter, 31, from Hammondville was arrested on warrants and new charges after he fled from Chattooga County Deputies. Hunter came to the end of the road on County 103 in Alabama and fled on foot after jumping from the van he was driving. Hunter jumped into the water above the dam and then, after becoming surrounded by deputies jumped from the dam, shown in picture, down to the rapids below. Several deputies were waiting below the dam, and when Hunter began swimming towards the other side of the river Deputy Caine Railey and a Cherokee County Deputy jumped in the river and swam towards the man. As he approached the bank, on the other side Agent Gary Campbell and Cpl. James Durham were waiting to take him into custody.
Hunter was wanted on several warrants in DeKalb County and it was found that he had assaulted his wife, who was in the vehicle with him, earlier today in DeKalb County. Several deputies from Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Jimmy Harris, two investigators and a deputy from DeKalb County Alabama arrived to assist. Hunter was transported to DeKalb County Jail.
