Brian Jennings and Rhett Walker will face each other in the run-off for Place 5 on the Cherokee County Board of Education next month (July).
On Tuesday voters cast 1,144 ballots for Jennings, with Walker receiving 864 votes. B.J. Major gathered a total of 466 votes to finish third.

In the contest for Cherokee County Revenue Commissioner Dustin St. Clair came out on top in a tight race with Centre Mayor Tony Wilkie – winning 52% of the votes cast. St. Clair claimed the victory with a total of 1,292 votes in comparison to 1,193 for Wilkie.
Wilkie said he wishes nothing but the best for St. Clair – and urged the voters that supported him in his campaign to now turn their support to St. Clair.
St. Clair will face Incumbent Johnny Roberts come November.
The run-off election is set for July 15th and that’s the date Cherokee County voters will have the opportunity to decide whether to extend the one-cent sales tax for education in the county – or let it lapse.
On Tuesday – a total of 2,924 of Cherokee County’s 14.627 registered voters went to the polls – making the turnout approximately 20%. Of those totals 2,600 Republican ballots were cast, with the Democratic ballots numbering 324.
