Rome - Alabama Man Accident 2

Additional information has now been released regarding an accident which claimed the life of an Alabama man in Georgia, at around 2:00pm last Thursday (May 1st).

70 year old Jerry Wayne Bell of Muscadine, Alabama was killed instantly when the Chevy Aveo he was riding in turned in front of a Floyd County Public Works Gradall excavator vehicle while traveling on Highway 27 south at Walker Mountain Road.

The vehicle was being driven by the victim’s wife – 60 year old Marian Bell.

She was carried to Floyd Medical Center for treatment following the accident and was reportedly conscious and alert at the time.

Authorities say the driver of the Public Works vehicle, 50 year old James Nelson of Rome – was not injured and was not at fault in the accident, as the Bell vehicle failed to yield.

The wreck blocked traffic in the southbound lanes of Highway 27 for approximately two hours – and it took almost four hours to remove the Gradall excavator from the scene due to a specialized tow truck having to be called in.
