A makeshift memorial has been set up at the intersection of North Broad and Callahan Street, where the fatal single-vehicle wreck occurred.
According to Floyd County Deputy Coroner Gene Proctor, Mkenzey Floyd was a passenger in the front seat of the SUV which crashed into a concrete utility pole.
The child was pronounced dead at 8:55 a.m. in the Floyd Medical Center Emergency Room. An adult and a second child in the vehicle were injured and were transported to the hospital.
The child’s mother, Tewanna Marie Atkins and another child were also taken to Floyd Medical Center. Atkins has since been transferred to another hospital.
