Accident Involving Dump Truck Results in Driver Being Air-Lifted to UAB

A single-vehicle accident involving a dump truck sent a Gadsden man to the hospital on Monday afternoon.

Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum informed WEIS Radio News that the accident occurred at 5:15pm on Highway 68 just past Pemco Road when the driver lost control of the ‘95 Ford Dump Truck, which belonged to J&K Excavating & Hauling.

Phillip Wayne Chapman was transported by Cherokee EMS from the scene of the accident to the Leesburg FEMA Building – he was then flown by LifeSaver Helicopter to UAB for treatment.

No additional information was available regarding the extent of Chapman’s injuries – fortunately no one else was involved in the accident.
