Anniston Man Faces Manslaughter and Assault Charge in Connection with Deadly Crash

Davis, Richard Nelson, Jr.

Anniston resident Richard Nelson Davis, Jr. is now facing charges of manslaughter and assault in connection with the death of a Jacksonville woman fatally injured in an automobile accident last year.  Davis was arrested late last week and was later released from the Calhoun County Jail on a $200,000 bond.  He had been indicted by a grand jury on March 10th.

Davis was reportedly driving on Alabama 204 just west of Jacksonville on May 5th 2013 – when his SUV struck two other vehicles killing one person and injuring another.

Alabama State Troopers informed the Anniston Star that 41 year old Kimberly McCoy was taken to Regional Medical Center immediately following the 5:30am accident – she was pronounced at the hospital; meanwhile, 20 year old Cody Phillips, also of Jacksonville – received injuries in the crash.

The accident report indicated that Davis was driving eastbound on Alabama 204 when his Chevy Tahoe crossed into the westbound lane, colliding with McCoy’s Honda Accord.

Court records show Davis later pled guilty to driving under the influence of alcohol at the time of the wreck.

Davis could face as much as 40 years in prison on the manslaughter and assault charges; he is set to appear in court April 17th for arraignment.
